Ken Heaven: “The Calling” BPM 135 (12″ Import USA)

This first copy of the Jimmy Sommerville sound comes via Switzerland, in other words, a High Energy beat with a falsetto voice. And this is certainly not the worst. Ken Heaven sounds somewhat squeezed in the high notes, but, thanks to the sophisticated production with an explicit role for the sequencer and a lot of synthetic brass instruments, manages to captivate from start to finish. An a cappella intro, followed by a long beat track, makes it possible to mix the record at various points. Incidentally, there is also a Hot Tracks version available (via the import channels) where the song was mixed back and forth with “Disenchanted.” The result is truly stunning. And if you still can’t get enough of it, Razormaid also provided a different mix of this track. What do you mean, a High Energy hit?
