Brenda Kay Starr: “What you see is what you get” 126 BPM (MCA 12” 23704 USA Import) by Martin Jesserun

For those who were enthusiastic about Nu Shooz with “Don’t let me be the one”, I have good news. This latest Brenda twelve-inch is almost identical, but far from a copy. It’s an energetic uptempo pop/dance number with the skilled vocals of Mrs. Starr and one of Jellybean’s better remixes of recent times. The Club, Dub, Acapella, and Alternate Club versions offer a wide range of combinations. I prefer the Alternate Club mix.

A good and solidly vocal-oriented mix in the first half, leading into a long break with a fantastic piano solo, a rap, and a lot of lively percussion parts including a timpani solo. “What you see” is hit material that can easily be included in a dance program. The best of K’Starr.
