“Once again, a new year; it seems as if 1986 has flown by at 180 BPM. Disco/Dance is entering its eighth year, and who knows how far the magazine will grow this year. The team of contributors is becoming more impressive, the layout is improving, and the circulation is increasing. There also seems to be more happening in disco/dance circles. New trends in dance music are emerging, without the old trends losing their significance. This is evident in the various year-end charts in this issue: Hiphop, Italo, Eurobeat, House, Funk, Soul, everything can be found. And if you thought you had kept track of the releases well this year, you still discover new names in those lists. But the experts mention these records as one of the ten best, so you’re always curious about what that could be. Meanwhile, this issue is once again filled with new releases, so let’s get to it!

Furthermore, we are naturally very curious if the Association for Dutch Drive-in Shows will take off this year. At the time of writing this piece, there were still no 75 payments received by the VND, so the final result will only be announced in the February issue. This year, Disco/Dance also wants to focus on freelance DJs. Perhaps there are numerous DJs in the Netherlands who travel from disco to disco with their record case and encounter all sorts of situations, if not abuses. Grab a pen and let us know what a freelance DJ can experience. In response to the news about the Disco/Dance mix contests in the previous issue, Ferry Maat announced in his Soulshow that he regretted that all mixes are nowadays sent to TROS instead of our magazine. Perhaps there is a form of cooperation possible, Ferry said in his program, and of course, a discussion will follow soon. We’ll keep you informed. Furthermore, we still look forward to reports from readers about events in discos, preferably with one or more photos. Finally, we wish all readers the best for the new year, which may be even more swinging than 1986!”
